The University of Helsinki Faculty of Arts invites applications for the position of
University lecturer or university instructor in Russian
for a fixed term from 1 August 2025 to 31 July 2027. There will be a six-month trial period for the position.
The appointee will be responsible for teaching in Russian as the first language in the Bachelor’s Programme in Languages. They will also give courses in the Russian language and Russian language studies in the Bachelor’s Programme in Languages and the Master’s Programme in Languages. The position also includes the supervision of theses and language revision as well as potentially other teaching at the Department of Languages.
The appointee must have excellent Russian skills. To successfully attend to the duties of the position, the appointee must also have excellent English skills. Proficiency in Finnish will be considered an advantage.
APPOINTMENT CRITERIA
According to the Regulations of the University of Helsinki, appointees to university lectureships must hold an applicable doctoral degree and be able to provide high-quality research-based teaching. Appointees to university instructorships must hold an applicable master’s degree and have teaching experience relevant to the position. When assessing the qualifications of the applicants, attention will be paid to teaching experience at university level, applicable publications, pedagogical training, the ability to produce learning material suitable for an academic context, other teaching merits, and, if necessary, a demonstration of teaching skills. Applicants are expected to have experience in the supervision of theses as well as cooperation and planning skills.

WHAT WE OFFER
For the position of university lecturer, the salary will be based on level 6 of the job requirement scheme for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance. The appointee’s gross monthly salary will range from €4,200 to €4,700, depending on their qualifications and experience.
For the position of university instructor, the salary will be based on level 5 of the job requirement scheme for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance. The appointee’s gross monthly salary will range from €3,500 to €4,000, depending on their qualifications and experience.

After the closing of the application period, the top candidates may be asked by the appointment committee to attend an interview and, if necessary, draw up a separate report on their teaching qualifications and give a demonstration of teaching skills.
