The University of Helsinki International trainee programme is open to all international students enrolled in a University of Helsinki master’s programme.
We are now looking for a TRAINEE for Caring labour: A multi-modal study of migrant workers’ care practices and mobilities project funded by Kone Foundation (2025-2027)
The duration of a traineeship is from 1 September to 31 December 2025 (four months) of part-time (55%) work, leaving time for studies as well. The salary of a trainee is €825 per month for a part-time (55%) trainee.
Job description
As a trainee you will be working in the discipline of Sociology with Professor Lena Näre and postdoctoral researchers Anastasia Diatlova and Elisabeth Wide. We conduct research on migrants who are currently working in Finland and who have a family back home. As a trainee your duties include assisting the researchers in recruiting research participants and conducting qualitative research interviews, transcribing the interviews, translations of the interview materials and interviews as well as possibly acting as an interpreter during interviews with research participants.
The person we are looking for
We are looking for a person who has experience or demonstrates strong interest in qualitative research methods (interviews and/or ethnographic methods), excellent communication skills, command of English language and command of at least one of the languages relevant to our research focus, such as Arabic, Farsi/Dari, Somali, Tagalog or Ukrainian, as well as interest in migration studies. This position requires high sensitivity towards people in precarious situations.
