TRAINEE for the Language Centre

The University of Helsinki International Trainee Programme for International Master Students is open to all international students enrolled in a University of Helsinki master programme.
The Language Centre is an independent institute of the University of Helsinki. It’s an institute of expertise in language teaching and consists of five language units, the Operational Support team and the Language Services unit. Language Centre’s duties include providing teaching in language and communication skills to students in the faculties and degree programmes of the University of Helsinki, conducting research relevant to this mission, developing language teaching, language learning material and diverse forms of learning.
Language Centre is taking part to the international trainee program and is now looking for a TRAINEE for a fixed term period.
About the position
Your main tasks as a trainee are to assist in organizing different language and communication learning related activities with and for students. Activities include informal language and communication learning possibilities, guidance sessions, the Course Assistant Programme and the Finnish-language Assistant Programme.
You will be working together with the Language Centre’s Operational Support team. Together with the team you’ll be improving student inclusion, cultural competence and internationalization at the Language Centre. You will be assisting in communication and collaboration surrounding the ongoing projects. The traineeship also includes communications work e.g. updating the Language Centre website and social media. You will also have the possibility to produce content, e.g. blogposts, about different topics. In addition, the trainee assists in organizing seminars and training sessions.
In each traineeship there is room for trainee’s own interests and for a project that the trainee will conduct under the supervision and with the support of the Operational Support team.
The person we are looking for
We expect you to have:
• excellent skills in spoken and written English
• an active way of working
• good presentation and teamwork skills
• interest in language and communication learning and in meeting new people
You are an advanced user of Microsoft Office tools. Other language skills, as well as pedagogical interest and administrative experience, are an asset.

The duration of the traineeship is from 1 September to 31 December 2025 (four months) of part-time (55%) work, leaving time for studies as well. The salary of a trainee is €825 per month for a part-time (55%) trainee.
