TRAINEE for the Democracy makers and Politicizing Environmental Emergency -projects

The University of Helsinki International trainee programme is open to all international students enrolled in a University of Helsinki master’s programme.

We are looking for a TRAINEE for the Democracy makers and Politicizing Environmental Emergency -projects funded by Kone Foundation (PI Eeva Luhtakallio).
 
The duration of a traineeship is from 1 September 2026 to 31 December 2026 (four months) of part-time (55%) work, leaving time for studies as well. The salary of a trainee is €852 per month for a part-time (55%) trainee. 

About the position  

The trainee is expected to contribute to the work of the two projects, the first being a research infrastructure and community oriented effort taking place within Centre for Sociology of Democracy, and the latter a more classical research project. The trainee will assist the PI and her team in varying tasks from assisting at events and seminars to conducting preliminary analyses of survey data, helping with writing literature reviews, and other research activities. The trainee can also participate in the political sociology research seminar organized within the CSD. The trainee will have a possibility to conduct their Master’s thesis in the project.

The person we are looking for

We are looking for a trainee who wants to contribute as a team member. Bachelor level studies in sociology with a particular focus on and interest in the political sociology –political participation, social movements, activism, and so on – would be the best fit. In addition, we appreciate basic skills in quantitative research methods. Expertise in qualitative research methodology and mixed methods is also beneficial. The applicant is expected to be fluent in English and have good skills in scientific writing. We are looking for an independent, curious learner-by-doing who is interested in research and the academic community.
