We are now looking for a
SENIOR SPECIALIST (sustainability, climate and nature)
As a specialist you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of sustainability and responsibility efforts at the University of Helsinki.
Your duties will include the coordination and development of the University’s climate and environmental efforts as well as activities that support the University’s operations within planetary boundaries. You will be responsible for the University’s carbon and nature footprint calculations and the development of measures, as well as for integrating research-based knowledge and the University community’s expertise into the University’s climate and environmental efforts. You will develop the monitoring, compliance and knowledge-based management of the University’s sustainability goals, as well as the development of practices throughout our organisation. You will examine the University’s ecological sustainability goals holistically as part of sustainable wellbeing at the University as a whole, and the University’s opportunities to strengthen its own ecological handprint. You will collaborate with various sectors, units and external stakeholders in university sustainability and responsibility goals. You will serve as an expert in development projects and services related to sustainability. You will actively monitor changes in the operating environment and help the University to be a leader in sustainability and responsibility.
The job includes a wide range of development, survey and coordination duties, communications, teamwork and various tasks shared by the unit related to the development of sustainable wellbeing overall. You will serve as an administrative supervisor for approximately four experts.
About you
Central to the appointee’s day-to-day work are subject-specific expertise in climate, biodiversity and other sustainability issues; precision; solution orientation; and knowledge of the field of responsibility. You have solid experience of effective climate and environmental efforts and calculations. You are able to interpret in the university context various requirements stemming from standards and legislation. You have a university degree, you are fluent in English and Finnish, and you have previous experience and expertise in goal-oriented climate and environmental efforts and calculations. You also have good skills in organisation and facilitation, and you are able to learn quickly, engage with large and complex issues, and work effectively under pressure.
We expect from the appointee fluent written and oral communication skills, cooperation skills and a punctual approach to work. We value the ability to work with various stakeholders both internally and externally, and the ability to adopt new comprehensive topics in a rapidly developing sector. Goal-oriented collaboration and interaction with different people inspire you, and you are a skilled communicator. Skills in the Swedish language is considered an asset.

You will work in the team for sustainable wellbeing in the University’s HR Services. Your salary will be between 4 100 € and 4 600 €, depending on previous work experience. The position is for an indefinite term.
