Research coordinator, Resilient and Just Systems (RESET)
The Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Helsinki is inviting applications for a research coordinator position for the period 2025-2028. The start date for the position is flexible and can be mutually agreed upon.
Environment
The position is opened at the Department of Economics and Management, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry located in Viikki campus. The working environment for the position is the Resilient and Just Systems (RESET), which is one of the profile-building areas of the University of Helsinki. RESET aims at developing a world-leading inter- and transdisciplinary research environment that bridges life and social sciences, offers sustainable and just solutions, and increases system resilience. RESET builds on the complementary scientific excellence of three key sustainability-driven networks at University of Helsinki: Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science HELSUS, Helsinki One Health HOH focusing on human–animal–environmental systems, and the Inequality initiative INEQ.
Tasks
The research coordinator will:
- participate in the development and communication of the operations of the RESET research environment, communicate with researchers and research groups in the research networks, cooperate with parties outside the university, and promote synergies in science communication and societal impact
- focus on facilitating and enhancing research collaboration in the thematic area: “Sustainable food and water systems”. The research aims at increasing our understanding on the interactions between food system (including farming, production, consumption), water resources and the ecological state of aquatic ecosystems, and developing solutions for resilient and fair sustainability transition.
- develop and experiment new forms of science-policy interaction in collaboration with HELSUS and other networks. The priority area is sustainable food and water systems, and successful models may be extended to other contexts such as circular economy solutions.
- participate in research and teaching activities and conduct research on topics relevant to the thematic area.
Requirements
We look for candidates who:
- have a doctoral degree in a field relevant for the research area. Prior research experience on interdependence between food, water and ecosystems are considered as an advantage.
- have evidence of active publication in recent years and demonstration of other scholarly activity
- have the ability to manage research projects and their finances
- have relevant working experience on participating or organizing science-policy or societal interaction or related activities
- enjoy working and contributing to multidisciplinary research networks
- are proficient in both English and Finnish languages.
What we offer
The salary of the research coordinator will be based on level 6-7 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The starting salary of the research coordinator will be ca. 4200 - 4500 €/month depending on the appointee's qualifications and experience. A six-month trial period will be applied.
