Research Coordinator
The Faculty of Arts, University of Helsinki, invites applications for the position of
RESEARCH COORDINATOR
for a fixed-term appointment for the period 1.4.2025-31.12.2030. There is a six-month trial period for the position.
Profiling 8 research action Diversity of Life and Society (DIVSOL) brings together existing strands of research on diversity at the University of Helsinki to create a leading European community for transdisciplinary research on ethnic, cultural, linguistic, religious and socio-ecological diversity. The action aims at offering novel insights into diversity that will contribute to the development of multi-level sustainable policies for human flourishing. This includes identifying social and environmental inequalities, supporting inclusive social action and policies, informing learning and education, promoting democratic literacy, understanding and promoting convivial multilingualism, and opening new methodological horizons. A strategic emphasis on data and AI supports reaching these aims.
DIVSOL is led by the Faculty of Arts and includes all SSH units (Arts, Education, Law, Theology, Social Sciences, the Swedish School of Social Science, and the Helsinki Institute for Social Sciences and Humanities) as well as the Faculties of Science, and of Biological and Environmental Sciences of the University of Helsinki.
The Faculty of Arts is looking for a research coordinator that would be responsible for assisting the Director in the realization of the aims of the DIVSOL action. While the position allows for research time, it is heavily administrative. Duties include (but are not limited) to:
- managing the day-to-day operations of the action, such as facilitating the interaction among researchers,
- organizing events, i.e., seminars, conferences, etc.
- coordinating the action’s communications, e.g., creating and maintaining its website and communicating with stakeholders
- assisting the director in reporting and implementing the budget
Requirements for the position
- A doctoral degree in any of the SSH areas represented at the University of Helsinki
- Evidence of experience in administrating research projects and their finances
- Evidence of active publication in recent years
- Demonstration of other scholarly activity, such as evidence of independent research activity, the ability to lead a research group, activities in Finnish or international research groups or networks, and experience in the acquisition of research funding
- Evidence of public engagement
- Excellent cooperation and interaction skills
- Fluency in Finnish and English; skills in other languages are considered an asset but not required

The salary for the position will be based on levels (5)6–7 of the job requirement scheme for teaching and research staff in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The appointee’s gross annual salary will range from €42,000 to €61,000, depending on their previous experience and qualifications. The position includes a six-month trial period.
