Project coordinator for carbon sink research
The objective of the research project is to update the methods for monitoring carbon sinks in the land use sector to obtain more accurate information about the status and changes in carbon stocks of natural environments. The project enhances the understanding of carbon flows and stocks in the land use sector using methods independent of greenhouse gas inventories and supports climate policy planning and implementation.
Duties
As a project coordinator, you will be responsible for the administrative coordination of the project. Your tasks will include:
- Project management and coordination: You will coordinate the planning and timely implementation of work packages and tasks. You will assist in managing contracts.
- Reporting and financial management: You will compile various reports and monitor the project budget. You will assist in managing the daily financial matters of the project.
- Communication and collaboration: You will communicate within the project and serve as a link between the project and its partners, ensuring smooth information flow and collaboration. Your work will include maintaining the project’s website and producing various communication materials.
- Event organization: You will plan and implement events both within the project, with the collaboration network and for external audiences. Events may include seminars, workshops, conferences or other occasions that support the project’s activities and visibility.
- Supporting members of the research group: You will assist research group members in their daily administrative tasks, such as recruiting and onboarding new employees and managing practical arrangements related to the research. Previous experience with IT systems and practices of the University of Helsinki is considered an advantage.
Your position will be located at the Kumpula campus, in the Project Coordination Support unit. Our team consists of approximately 40 project coordinators placed in various research projects. Our team members provide peer support while we primarily work in an independent role in our research projects.
The position is fixed term, starting in September 2025 or as agreed and ending in August 2027. The salary for the position will depend on the selected candidate’s skills and experience, in the beginning of the employment typically ranging from 3300-3500 € per month.
Requirements
- Initiative and precision: You can work independently and thoroughly but also flexibly as a part of a team. You have excellent organizational, problem-solving and prioritization skills and can quickly learn funder specific practices and requirements.
- Good communication skills: You can communicate fluently in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Finnish or other languages is considered an advantage. Your get along well with people and can collaborate with various stakeholders.
- Experience with similar tasks or research administration: Previous experience in project management, communication, event organization and working in research administration is considered an advantage.
- Educational background: A degree from higher education (bachelor's, master's or from a university of applied sciences) is required for successfully fulfilling the duties of the position. A degree in administrative sciences or business administration is considered an advantage.
