Professor in Neurology

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki invites applications for the position of  

 

PROFESSOR

 

for a fixed term of 5 years as of 1.5.2025 or by agreement. The field of the position is Neurology with Finnish as the language of instruction. 

 

The professor is responsible for undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education in the field, including practical small group and lecture-based teaching. The position includes carrying out and supervising scientific research and, consequently, following scientific developments as well as participating in public engagement and Finnish and international cooperation in the field. In addition, the appointee has other duties related to the responsibilities of the Faculty. 

 

Qualification requirements 
An appointee to a professorship shall hold a doctoral degree and have top-level scholarly qualifications, experience in the supervision of scientific research, as well as the ability to provide top-level research-based teaching and to supervise theses and dissertations. In addition, the appointee shall present documentation of international cooperation in the field of research that this person represents. Holders of professorships shall also have the skills necessary for serving as an academic leader. The degree requirement must be met by the end of the application deadline.

When considering the applicant’s qualifications, attention shall be given to scientific publications and other research results of scientific value, teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce teaching material, other teaching merits, if necessary, a demonstration of teaching skills as well as the applicant’s participation in doctoral education.

Account shall also be taken of the applicant’s activity in the scientific community, success in obtaining external research funding, international research experience and international elected positions as well as leadership and interaction skills. To ensure that the applicant’s ability to supervise theses and dissertations meets the requirements of the Faculty of Medicine, he or she must have completed the supervision of at least one doctoral dissertation. The requirement for a supervised dissertation must be met by the end of the application deadline.

 

The practical experience required for the position can be demonstrated with a specialists degree or license in the field. 

The appointee and HUS Helsinki University Hospital may negotiate over a suitable secondary position.

 

The trial period is six months. 

 

Requirements for language skills

Salary 
The salary will be based on levels 8-10 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance.
