The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki invites applications for the position of part-time (35 %)

 
PROFESSOR   

for a fixed term of five years. The field of the position is Clinical Data Science with Finnish as the language of instruction. 

 

The professorship in Clinical Data Science is connected to the position of Technology Manager at HUS Helsinki University Hospital. Separate applications must be submitted for the professorship and the position of Technology Manager.

 

Duties
The Professor is responsible for undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing education in Clinical Data Science. In addition, the Professor participates in practical small group and lecture-based teaching in their area of expertise, as appropriate, across all educational programs in the Faculty. The position includes carrying out and supervising scientific research, following developments in research in the relevant field and participating in societal interaction as well as national and international cooperation in the field. In addition, the professor’s duties include other tasks assigned by the Faculty.

 

Common selection criteria of the Faculty of Medicine
An appointee to a professorship shall hold a doctoral degree and have top-level scholarly qualifications, experience in the supervision of scientific research, as well as the ability to provide top-level research-based teaching and to supervise theses and dissertations. In addition, the appointee shall present documentation of international cooperation in the field of research that they represents. Holders of professorships shall also have the skills necessary for serving as an academic leader. The degree requirement must be met by the end of the application deadline.

 

When considering the applicant’s qualifications, attention shall be given to scientific publications and other research results of scientific value, teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce teaching material, other teaching merits  as well as the applicant’s participation in doctoral education. Account shall also be taken of the applicant’s activity in the scientific community, success in obtaining external research funding, international research experience and international elected positions as well as leadership and interaction skills. To ensure that the applicant’s ability to supervise theses and dissertations meets the requirements of the Faculty of Medicine, they must have completed the supervision of at least one doctoral dissertation. The requirement for a supervised dissertation must be met by the end of the application period.

 

Trial period of six months will be applied.

 

Requirements for language skills

Salary 
The salary will be based on levels 8-10 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance.

Should HUS terminate the appointment process, or the proposals of the appointment committees of the Faculty of Medicine and HUS differ from each other, the appointment process for the professorship at the University of Helsinki will be terminated. If the appointee to the professorship resigns from the position of Techonology Manager at HUS, their employment contract with the University of Helsinki will also be terminated.
