Laboratory Technician in Molecular Oncology
Heikki Joensuu’s research group at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki invites applications for the position of a
Laboratory Technician
starting as soon as possible (or agreed). The position is initially for 1 year, with the possibility for extension.
Our research
Our research group focuses on exploring novel mechanism behind drug resistance in breast and gastric cancer, in addition we are investigating novel drugs and treatment strategies to treat drug-resistant cancer.
Your qualifications
The ideal candidate has a Master of Science degree or Bioanalyst degree in a life-science-related field (e.g. medicine, biology, biochemistry), but applicable other degrees are also considered.
A strong background in one or more of the following areas will be looked upon favourably:
- Mammalian cell culture
- In vitro drug sensitivity assays
- Immunohistochemistry
- Experience with mouse models is a plus
Your main tasks will include:
- Culturing mammalian cancer cell lines
- Treating cancer cells with drugs and measuring cell viability
- Cutting sections from paraffin-embedded tumors and labeling proteins on these sections using immunohistochemistry
Applicants should be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, with strong communication skills in English.
The chosen applicant is expected to reside in Finland while employed by the University of Helsinki.
What we offer
Employment is expected to start as soon as possible, or agreed, as a fixed 1-year position, with a possibility of prolongation. A 6-month trial period will be applied.
The salary will be based on the University salary scheme for the specialist and support staff. The starting salary will be ca. 2865- 3200 euros/month, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience.
