Doctoral Researchers in Human Genomics and Complex Disorders

 

We currently have 2 openings for doctoral researchers starting in October 2024 or as agreed. The appointed doctoral researchers will be supervised by Docent Rubina Tabassum.

 

We are seeking highly motivated doctoral researchers to work in the field of human genomics, with particular focus on lipidomics and metabolomics. The planned PhD project will focus on understanding the metabolic heterogeneity in complex disorders using integrative omics approach to provide better understanding of the complex disorders, new biomarkers, and potential approaches for targeted therapies. We utilize large-scale biobanks data including health data, genomics, lipidomics and metabolomics; and employ diverse computational and statistical tools to carry out integrative research to understand the complex interplay between metabolism and health.

YOUR PROFILE

 

  • A highly motivated student with a second cycle academic degree (MSc, MD or equivalent) in biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, biotechnology, computer science, genetics, medicine, statistics or other related fields.
  • Experience in programming (e.g., R or Python) and statistical analysis of scientific data.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with problem solving and troubleshooting aptitude.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, and ability to work independently as well as in an international team.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

 

The salary is based on the job requirement scheme for teaching and research staff according to the salary system of the Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a personal salary component. In total, the starting gross salary of a doctoral researcher is typically around 2500 EUR per month and rises gradually as the PhD work progresses based on the University of Helsinki salary scheme.
