Deputy Director (University Researcher)

The Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies (HCAS) is seeking to appoint a Deputy Director to a fixed term position from 1.9.2024 until 30.8.2029. The person appointed will support the Director of the Collegium in the management of the operations of HCAS for 50% of their working time, whereas 50% of the working time is reserved for their own academic research. In addition to contributing to the daily operations of the Collegium, the appointed person is expected to apply for external funding for the institute and serve as the series editor of HCAS’s publication series. All employees of the Collegium are expected to be present in person for at least 80% of their working time. The annual work load of the position is 1 612 hours.

 

Requirements for the position and assessment criteria

 

The position of the Deputy Director is a University Researcher position. The successful candidate should thus have the qualifications of docent in some field in the humanities or social sciences, including theology, law, psychology, and education. In order to secure a sufficiently broad disciplinary base in HCAS leadership, researchers with expertise in empirical and/or quantitative research methods are given priority. The appointee must have excellent command of English and at least satisfactory command of Finnish. Other language skills are considered an advantage.  

 

When assessing the applicants, attention will be paid to their

 

  • academic merits,
  • international networks,
  • experience in academic peer review,
  • other academic service including editorial experience, and
  • administrative experience within the academia.

 

 

What we offer

 

The salary for the position is based on level 6(-7) of the job requirement scheme for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on their personal performance. The gross annual salary is approximately €59,000–€64,000. There is a six-month trial period for the position.
