Assistant/associate/professor in Organizational Psychology

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki is seeking

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR / PROFESSOR
as of August 1, 2026, or by agreement. The field of the position is organizational psychology and the language of instruction is Finnish.


The Faculty of Medicine launched a new educational program in the fall of 2024. This new program responds to the need for psychological expertise in the workplace and organizations. The related bachelor's program, the Bachelor's Program in Applied Psychology, began in the fall of 2024. The program is implemented in collaboration with the Faculty of Social Sciences. Students typically transition from the bachelor's program to the Master's Program in Organizational Psychology, which will start in 2026 (90 students).

 

The educational program provides the skills necessary to apply psychological knowledge and expertise in various job roles where understanding the functioning and development of groups and organizations is crucial. The Master's Program in Organizational Psychology does not aim for a professional qualification in healthcare.

 

The assistant professor/associate professor/professor will be responsible for undergraduate, post graduate, and continuing education in organizational psychology. Additionally, the assistant professor/associate professor/professor will participate in practical small group teaching and lecture -based teaching primarily in the Master's Program in Organizational Psychology https://www.helsinki.fi/en/degree-programmes/organisational-psychology-masters-programme and in the Bachelor's Program in Applied Psychology https://www.helsinki.fi/en/degree-programmes/soveltavan-psykologian-kandiohjelma The responsibilities also include establishing, conducting, and supervising scientific research related to organizational psychology, and based on that, following the development of research, as well as  engaging in societal interactions and domestic and international cooperation in the field. The assistant professor/associate professor/professor will be expected to promote the research and teaching network in organizational psychology, which may include companies and organizations, other universities, and researchers in the field. The professorship also includes administrative duties assigned by the faculty.

 

Candidates for the assistant/associate professor position (Tenure Track career path) https://www.helsinki.fi/en/about-us/careers-and-open-positions/academic-careers/tenure-track are required to have a doctoral degree and the ability to conduct independent scientific work, as well as the teaching skills necessary for the position. In addition, candidates must demonstrate a track record of publications and other evidence of capability and motivation for an academic career, showing a trajectory of increasing development. The degree requirement must be fulfilled by the end of the application period.

 

When evaluating the candidate's merits, in addition to research and teaching accomplishments, success in acquiring external research funding, scientific work abroad, and other international experience will also be considered.

 

Candidates for the professor position are required to have a doctoral degree, high-level scientific qualifications, experience in leading scientific research, the ability to provide high-quality, research-based teaching, and supervise theses, as well as evidence of international collaboration in their research field. Additionally, the professor position requires skills to act as an academic leader. The degree requirement must be fulfilled by the end of the application period.

 

When evaluating the candidate's merits, scientific publications and other research results with scientific value, teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce learning materials, other teaching-related accomplishments, and participation in doctoral training will be considered. Furthermore, the candidate's active involvement in the scientific community, success in acquiring external research funding, scientific work abroad, and international trust positions, as well as leadership and interpersonal skills, will be taken into account. 

 

The candidate must have supervised at least one completed doctoral thesis to meet the Faculty of Medicine's requirements. The requirement regarding thesis supervision must be fulfilled by the end of the application period.

 

The selected assistant professor/associate professor/professor must have expertise in organizational psychology, which can be demonstrated through research publications related to the field. Previous experience in developing education or work experience in organizational psychology roles will be considered an advantage.

 

Trial period of six-months will be applied.

 

Language Skills 
The university requires that those holding teaching and research positions must be proficient in the language, Finnish or Swedish, in which they will provide instruction. Salary 
The salary for the position is determined according to the university's salary system for teaching and research personnel, based on the level of responsibility. The level for the assistant professor/associate professor is 7, and for the professor 8-10. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance.
