Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor of Clinical Pharmacy and Social Pharmacy

We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking professor with a clear vision to contribute to the growth and development of emerging fields in social and clinical pharmacy, e.g. digital health, personalized drug therapy, pharmacovigilance and drug safety, pharmacy informatics, medication therapy management for chronic diseases, pharmaceutical care and medication management.

Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor of Clinical Pharmacy and Social Pharmacy 


starting in the beginning of 2026 or as agreed. The successful applicant may be appointed to a permanent full Professorship or a fixed-term Assistant/ Associate Professorship (tenure track), depending on their qualifications and career stage. The aim of the tenure track system is to grant tenure and a permanent position as Professor.
 

Clinical pharmacy and social pharmacy are multidisciplinary fields of research that focus on the role, provision, regulation and use of medicines — these disciplines focus on optimizing pharmacotherapy and promoting health, also covering economic aspects. The emphasis is on rational medicine use and ways to influence it, as well as developing and evaluating clinical pharmacy services, medication safety, and risks. Clinical pharmacy is based on interdisciplinary collaboration and patients’ involvement in their pharmacotherapy. Clinical pharmacy encompasses all healthcare and social care environments, including hospital and outpatient settings where pharmacotherapy is critical in patient management and care. Clinical pharmacy and social pharmacy are closely connected with public health and pharmacoepidemiology, digitalization in health and pharmacoeconomics.  
 

The appointee's primary responsibilities are teaching and developing leading research program in clinical pharmacy and social pharmacy, to conduct independent and collaborative research nationally and internationally. The appointee is expected to apply for and gain substantial external research funding portfolio (e.g., the Research Council of Finland, Business Finland, EU Horizon program, and European Research Council). Societal impact is essential and can be achieved through close cooperation with regulatory bodies, healthcare professionals, and patient organizations where applicable or through developing novel innovations. 
 

The appointee is responsible for the field's graduate and postgraduate/doctoral level education. The graduate level education includes the domestic language programmes of Bachelor/Master in Pharmacy, and the English language Master’s Programme in Pharmaceutical Research, Development and Safety. The appointee is expected to actively develop a clinical pharmacy and social pharmacy teaching curriculum in close collaboration with the Faculty’s three degree programmes and stakeholders.
 

Expectations and assessment of qualifications


An appointee to the position of Assistant/Associate Professor in the tenure track system shall hold a doctoral degree, have demonstrated ability to conduct independent scientific research work, have experience in leading academic projects and supervising PhD candidates, have the teaching skills necessary for the position, and have the ability and motivation for a successful academic career. The appointee shall provide documentation demonstrating national and international collaborations in the research field they represent. An appointee to a full Professorship must possess outstanding scholarly qualifications, a proven track record of securing external funding, extensive experience in supervising and leading scientific research and supervision of theses and dissertations, and the capacity to deliver high-quality research-based teaching. Holders of professorships shall also have the skills necessary for serving as an academic leader in the field.
 

In addition to leading and conducting scientific research and delivering teaching, the appointee is expected to actively contribute as an academic staff member and work towards enhancing the quality of both research and education. Good co-operative and interaction skills are an asset.
 

To successfully carry out the duties of the position, the appointee is expected to have research and teaching experience in clinical pharmacy and social pharmacy and fluency in English. The appointee should understand, or after being selected be able to quickly adopt, the different entities of Finnish health care system. If the appointee is not proficient in Finnish, they are expected to acquire proficiency within 5 years after the appointment to be able to perform successfully in the teaching tasks related to the position. Support for language studies is offered.

The annual gross salary for an Assistant/Associate Professor generally amounts to 57,000 - 74,000 euros and for a Professor to 69,000 - 90,000 euros, depending on the applicant’s merits and career stage.
