Project Coordinator, Finnish Scientific Diving Academy
We are looking to appoint an Project Coordinator for the Finnish Scientific Diving Academy
for a 3-year, full-time position starting 1.2.2025 or according to agreement.
The Finnish Scientific Diving Academy (FSDA) is looking for a new member to join its team to develop Europe’s leading cold water-based training facility. Based at Tvärminne Zoological Station (Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences, University of Helsinki) on the shores of the Baltic Sea, the FSDA focus is on training all levels of scientific diving, developing applications and technologies used in underwater research, and collaborating with global organizations running projects requiring advanced techniques in underwater data acquisition.
As part of the coordination team the new employee will be involved in an instructional capacity running courses from entry level diving to occupational courses, developing new programs, coordinating daily organizational tasks, building collaborations with other educational facilities and research organizations in the field and operating as part of the expedition team for cooperative projects nationally as well as internationally. The role will also involve ongoing growth and building of the FSDA.
Role Responsibilities
Instruction of courses,including entry level program, leadership level courses, occupational Advanced European Scientific Diver, polar research program, technical scientific diving, full face mask and communications
Contribute to / Join expeditions and consultancy projects globally as needed
Development of new programs to offer as part of FSDA curriculum
Organisation and coordination of courses, operations and daily tasks
Building collaborations with other institutions and organizations
Acquiring funding for development and growth of the FSDA
Cooperate with the TZS Dive Officer to maintain all diving operations at Tvärminne
Public outreach including presentations and general media articles on the FSDA
Act as a public figure representing the FSDA
Managing FSDA marketing and social media
Contribute to the development of the FSDA towards a world class facility in scientific diving
Report to the FSDA Head and TZS Station Coordinator
Requirements
BSc in Marine science or related field
Advanced European Scientific Diver level or equivalent occupational scientific diving qualification
Full face mask and communications experience
Instructor from a recognized dive training agency
Technical Diving / trimix certification
Experience in management of scientific diving operations
Excellent logistics and organisational skills
High level word processing, spreadsheet and powerpoint skills
Comfortable public speaking
Experience in writing articles and blogs
Fluent English written and spoken
Occupational dive medical
Extensive cold water and drysuit experience
O2 provider and CPR instructor (DAN, EFR or equivalent)
Beneficial
CCR Diver or Instructor
Finnish / Swedish language skills
Social media and website platform skills
Experience in crew resource management and human factor application
Polar region diving experience
Mountaineering / polar experience
Commercial Diving certificates
ROV piloting skills
Research publication experience
The salary is based on the Finnish university salary system demand level 7 and the starting salary will be ca. 2900 -3400 euros per month depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience. A six-month trial period will be applied.
